One of the features inherent in oral preparations of active androgens alkylated at position 17 is their negative effect on the liver. (Dianabol) is the most important oral preparation of active androgens alkylated at position 17 in sports performance studies (Friedl, 2000). It was an oral drug that was widely used by athletes in the 1960s and 1970s and was then withdrawn from the market by major hormone drug manufacturers (Yesalis et al., 1988). Modification of testosterone with the etheric side chain also protects it from rapid elimination from the body, however, due to the fact that this chain can undergo hydrolysis, this drug allows the testosterone to gradually enter the circulatory system from a distant site of intramuscular injection and its effect is different in nature from the effects of 17- alkyl derivatives. The duration of action of such esterified androgens is approximately proportional to the length of the side chain. A relatively short side chain provides this drug with a relatively short duration (usually administered orally) (Shurmeyer et al., 1983), while higher testosterone levels can be maintained with weekly injections or, and a very long side chain of testosterone bicyclate maintains testosterone levels. blood pas for several months (Behre, Nieschlag, 1992).
